    Valves, open and close on every other piston up down cycle 60 times a minute. Combustion runs over 1,800 degrees hot!

    Valves run at temperatures between 800 and 1,200 degrees and oil is bathing them to carry away the heat and lubricate. Oil turns to tar at 350 degrees.

    Oil is always running at 250 degree - 20 degrees above water's boiling point. The engine is over supplied with oil so circulation can keep flushing the valves and other parts with cooler oil, which then carry some of the heat load away.

    Coolant - nearby is also carrying away heat buildup.

    Some oil will thicken and stick on your engine valves. When the thickness is as thick as your finger nail - resistance begins.
