  1. The fuel system and fuel injectors. Acids and moisture in the tank collect gummy molecules.
  2. These gummy molecules, along with "blowby,"  layer in the passage way where air and fuel go to your valves and also go into your combustion area. 
  3. When valves get dirty they close lazily and this reduces fuel into the motor. Power drops, so you give the motor more gas to maintain the speed. A richer, gummier mixture now gums up your piston rings.
